Among the most critical components of the Chinese culture include music, visual arts, cuisine, martial arts, music, and literature among so many other things CITATION YuD \l 2057 (Yu, Zhong, Xiaoling).Classical Chinese was the ancient written Chinese language. Though for thousands of years, the language got considerable use, it was reserved for intellectuals and scholars who formed the upper noble class of the society (shi da fu). Calligraphy got later commercialized. Millions of citizens were still illiterate even after the 20th century. It was only after the May 4th Movement that the push for written vernacular Chinese language started. It was only at this point that the common citizens got a chance to read as the language model was that of the phonology and linguistics of what was the standard spoken language. Most of the traditional Chinese health beliefs adopt a holistic view, emphasizing highly of the importance of environmental factors in increasing the risk of diseases. The environmental factors influence the balance of the bodyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s contrary but complementary forces, yin and yang. Imbalance in these two forces leads to illness. Traditional remedial practices have to be used to restore the balance of these forces CITATION She02 \l 2057 (McNamara, 2002).Illness can be perceived as a state of disharmony between the natural, social environment and the individual. It is the moral duty of the family members to take care of their sick member, curative and caring processes are relevant to health maintenance. In the traditional Chinese culture, medication can be seen as aversive act. Mostly, if the symptoms are not obvious, medication may never be taken. Minor side effects of many antibiotics have contributed to the reckless non adherence to medication. Over-the-counter purchase of antibiotics is a common practice in the communities. Parents think that their children suffer from the same illnesses due to occurrence of similar symptoms. This makes them give their children shared antibiotics and only take them to the doctor if there is no improvement.Apart from the above traditional beliefs, there are those who blame their ill situations or even misfortunes on supernatural forces or acts of witches and sorcerers. These types of groups will always seek medication from their religion and such practices. TCM used to be practiced as ambulatory care until the 1950s when hospitals integrated services in their care delivery system. It is in thi s same period that TCM academic training in the universities became formalized. According to the Chinese customs, health may be explained as a balance between yang and yin (two forms of energy that are opposite yet they complement each other). The two forces are a manifestation of everything in nature; one must be present for the other to exist. When the body is healthy, it may be seen as a situation where the balance is in a constant change. Yin and Yang experience shifts in a natural manner. Health problems may experience when consistent alteration of the balances happens, and one dominates the other. Among the things that have influenced the Chinese culture are religious philosophies. Critical Thinking What It Is and Why It Is Necessary Essay

Critical thinking is associated with various methods and the definition will vary. A business student will look at critical thinking differently from a psychology student. The definition has changed quite a bit over the years; it can be simple and direct, as looking at a situation and asking specific questions and coming up with a conclusion. Educator Diane Halpern’s definition, â€Å"Critical thinking is the use of those cognitive skills or strategies that increase the probability of a positive outcome.† Critical thinking is used to describe thinking that is purposeful, reasoned, and is goal directed - the kind of thinking involved in problem solving, formulating inferences, calculating likelihoods, and making decisions. One can perform these methods to come up with conclusions to a question or a hypothesis. Programs pertaining to critical thinking were designed by scientist and were directed toward improving the thought process in humanities and social studies. The value of learning critical thinking and the science behind the method is powerful. This method can produce other thoughts and answer to new and current questions and critical thinking is the most powerful method invented by humans to obtain relevant and reliable knowledge. This is also known as justified truth belief; thoughts which may be accurate because the facts that were obtained were justified by reliable resources. What Does Daijoubu Mean in Japanese

Daijoubu  (Ã¥ ¤ §Ã¤ ¸Ë†Ã¥ ¤ «) means OK in Japanese. It can also mean all right. In Japan, daijoubu is a common response to an order or instruction, such as a parent telling a child to clean his room or a boss explaining to an employee how to carry out a project. Using Daijoubu Daijoubu is often the word you would use to tell others you are fine in Japanese. Generally, it can mean both yes and no. Daijoubu is also used as a safe way to answer a question. However, many native speakers say that the word is overused in the Japanese language as a response in different situations. Daijoubu and Daijoubu Desu Daijoubu  is sometimes paired with  desu  (㠁 §Ã£ â„¢), which by itself means is, or when written as  -n desu  (ã‚“ 㠁 §Ã£ â„¢), means it is.  In different situations, the addition of  desu  can cause daijoubu  to mean different things, depending on the context, as the following examples show: Suppose that someone says to you: â€Å"I heard you had been suffering from a terrible cold for a week. Are you OK now?† As a response, you might answer  daijobu desu  (Im fine). When a waiter asks, â€Å"Do you want some water?† people might  respond with,  Daijobu desu,  meaning â€Å"No thanks. If someone asks: Are you hurt? you might answer by saying,  daijoubu, which in this context means, I am fine. And if your host asks, Is the water too hot? an appropriate response might be,  daijoubu, which translates as its just fine. Related Phrases Daijoubu desu kaÃ¥ ¤ §Ã¤ ¸Ë†Ã¥ ¤ «Ã£ §Ã£ â„¢Ã£ â€¹) can be used in formal situations. A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes - 1736 Words

All Langston Hughes ever wanted was for people to have their dreams accomplished and the motivation to bring change forward. However, Hughes’s dreams almost came tumbling down for speaking out in one of his poems. In 1940, Hughes had been investigated by the FBI following the release of his poem â€Å"Goodbye Christ†. Numerous accusations had arisen, stating Hughes â€Å"†¦[was a] member of the Communist Party, [ran] for public office, called for a race war, married a white woman, and studied Communism in the U.S.S.R.† (Dyson, p. 45, 2002). Although it looked as if Hughes’s days with the rest of society were numbered, Hughes made sure that his dreams were not forgotten. Hughes continued to write poetry during this difficult time period which included his poem â€Å"A Dream Deferred†. Hughes realized that when he wrote this poem, it had to be worded in a way that would get his message across while not raising any red flags. Even though hi s poem would get published, the publishers who helped Hughes had gotten fired (Miller, n.p., 2012). When Hughes was ordered to appear before the Committee of Un-American Activities in 1953, he looked to ensure that he would not end up in jail without abandoning his ideals. Hughes then released a statement regarding himself and his poetry saying that he believes â€Å"‘†¦in an America that changes as Americans want it to change’† which is exactly what is reflected in â€Å"A Dream Deferred† (Dyson, p. 45, 2002). There are also some classes that are needed in order to get this major. One class that is a must in order to obtain this major is mathematics. Architects need to be good with numbers and they must know how to read a ruler or measuring tape. Also architects need to have precise measurements for everything that they do because any little miscalculation can lead to the collapse of a building or house. Math is also used in architecture to analyze and calculate structural problems and the sizes and shapes added to a design is calculated using mathematical formulas. Another class that is needed for architecture is physics. Physics is extremely important to architects as they must understand how certain materials react to the heat and to the cold, how they change over time, and how they are affected by water. Also they need to know how vibrations can affect buildings because if there is ever an earthquake he must make sure that the building isn t just gonna come crumbling down. Corporate Law Asic V Adler [2002] Nswsc 171 †Free Samples

Question: Discuss about the Corporate Law Asic V Adler [2002] Nswsc 171. Answer: Facts of the case and inappropriate behaviour of Adler The present case is based on the breach of duties of directors. On June 2000, HIHC provided an unauthorised and unsecured loan of $10 million to Pacific Eagle Equity Pty Ltd (PEE). PEE was a company controlled by Alder, and he was also a non-executive director at the same time. The company was holding an extensive share of HIH due to which the loan received by PEE turn out to be a trustee of AEUT. Subsequently, HIHCs $10 million loans to PEE were applied to HIHCs payment for $10 million worth of AEUT units. With this transaction, in the stock market, PEE bought $4 million worth of HIH share then the shares were sold at a loss of $2 million by PEE. HIH shares were purchased by PEE to give a fake impression to the stock market as the company is successful to HIHs investors (Gullifer and Payne, 2015). Further, PEE bought various unregistered shares worth of $4 million from Alder Corporation. The entire investment was a total loss. Further these all transactions carried out with no appro val of shareholders and also no information or disclosure was provided to the board as well as to the HIH. The loan was provided in an inappropriate manner and securities were also given to the loan so that the HIHS directors couldnt notice it. All of it was held due to Alder. He breached his responsibilities and duties as a director of HIH. It is because he misused his powers for individual benefit by not acting with care and diligence. His decisions were not in good faith due to which losses were faced by shareholders of the company. Contravention by Adler of Australian law According to the section 9, a companys director is termed as an individual who is selected for that position as a director or an optional director. It also considers those persons who are not directors but work as a director by whichever name is given to their position. It is a duty of director that he has to protect shareholder interest from the obligations which they have to bear because of their fault (Austin and Ramsay, 2015). These duties are imposed because shareholders of the company are having the risk of loss that if director use companys assets for their personal use and mismanagement due to incompetent decisions. Moreover, this section also describes the officer of a corporation which normally consists of the company executives who is having the higher position at the board level. These persons are identified for the certain situations and give their opinions and take part in the decision making which is considerable by the company. In the company, if the person is having the authority to give decisions and stands financially for the company so that person is known as a shadow director. According to the case of ASIC v Adler, the decision was held by the court that Adler, HIHS director, he is also an officer of fully owned HIH subsidiary satisfies all the condition of the definition of the director. This is also applied on Adler because he is not a director but he acts as a director of the subsidiary (Hannigan, 2015). Firstly he was acting as a director, and secondly, he was holding the position of the member of HIH investment committee so because of the membership he participated in the decision-making process of the company which affects the company wholly or partly. According to Corporations Act 2001, particularly, section 180 (duty to act with care and diligence), section 181 (obligation to act in good faith), section 182 (duty not to improperly use position) and section 183 (duty for appropriate use of information), the court seized that Alder breached directors duty. Detail description of these sections and link with the case is enumerated as below: Section 180: According to this section, it gives the right to the director to implement their powers and discharge their duties with regular care and diligence. They have to act like a prudent person will do if they are having similar circumstances take place in the office. According to the case of ASIC v Adler, the managing director of HIH and HICH who contravened section 180(1) because he failed to make sure that loan decision is viable prior to declaring it (Harris, Hargovan and Adams, 2013). Fodera, the finance director of HIH, he also breaches this section because he had not discussed the proposal of giving the loan of $10 million loans to PEE with HIH board of investment committee. Section 180(2): This section gives directions to run the company in case if any officer or director makes any rules so that would be held under the legality, the general laws, equal duties of care and diligence, in which all the essential will be shown (Venus, 2016). These elements are to ensure that judgment made by them is proper in good faith and for a proper reason. This will also ensure that no aspect is related to their personal interest in the matter of judgment. In accord with the case of ASIC v Adler, the court had given the order for a sentence of all three directors Adler, Williams, and Fodera because they contravene their statutory duty of care. They made business judgement on the basis of their biased interest. First of all the judgments which are given by Adler are not satisfying as per provisions of cited section. Section 181 This law shows that the directors or officers use their rights and power in good faith of the company and for a proper purpose. If the directors of the company are thinking of their personal interest, then it will result in contravention of the section (Sulaiman and et.al. 2005). By the lieu of this section, it is clearly shown that the Adler had breached this section because the transactions which took place in HIH and PEE were inappropriate as it were taken with the objective of his personal benefit. Section 182 This section states that the employees and officers must not misuse their position and take advantages of their positions in the company for personal benefits. In the case of Adler, he breached the section because he doesn't discuss anything about the investment and invest $10 million in the stock market (Austin and Ramsay, 2015). Due to this transaction, the company PEE bears the loss from reselling the shares of HIH. So, Adler had taken advantages of their position in the company due to which he will be liable for the damages. Section 183 Section 183 states that if a person gets the information and whether they are or not the director of the company, dont have the right to use that information for their personal use. In the case of ASIC v Vizard, the court detained Vizard because he was not the member but he knows all the internal information of the company and use that information for buy and sell the shares as per the Telstra (Hedges and et.al. 2016). This act is considered to be an offence under provisions of insider trading. Similarly, Adler had used the information of the company for his personal benefits, so it shows clearly a contravention of the section. Section 260A According to this section, the company financially appoints a person who acquires the shares of its investment company must behave ethically. The financial assistant is those who buy the share for their company and think of profitability on behalf of the company (Gullifer and Payne, 2015). In the case of ASIC v Adler, he clearly breaks the section to give financial supporter to PEE which used the information to buy the shares of HIH in the stock market. The main purpose behind this is to increase the share price of HIH shares for the benefit of the Adler. Punishment suffered by Adler as a result of this conviction Considered case study clearly shows that Adler breached his duties as a non-executive director of HIH and HIHC as per division 1 part 2D. In the given transactions, it was also found that the trust purchase of the share was unauthorised and unsecured. Further, unlisted technology and internet entities were connected with Adler and loans given as per the trust from other entities were also associated with Adler (Hannigan, 2015). Due to these activities; a compensation order was charged for all the damages and sufferings. With this entire loss has been borne by Alder. As per the s.1317G a pecuniary penalty was ordered for him. Further, Adler was banned from the organisation corporation for certain period of time as given in section 206C. The final judgment made by the court was to ban Alder from the company for 20 years. Apart from this, penalties were also imposed by the court. They were as follows: Adler - $450,000, Adler Corporation - $450,000, Williams - $250,000 and Fodera - $5000. Besides this pay, a total compensation of sum of $7,986,402 was ordered to pay to HIHC by Adler on behalf of Adler Corporation and Williams Lessons Indicated by case study In the case of ASIC V ADLER [2002] NSWSC 171, it was found that Adler contravened the directors duties he didnt exercise his given powers with a standard of care and diligence. He also avoided proper company safeguards and measures (Langford and Ramsay, 2014). Further, he couldnt make the proper use of judgments for the company, and he was making wrong use of judgment for his individual benefit. The details verified that Adlers purpose of the transaction was to hold up the HIH share price. The whole case highlights the perspective of a conflict of interest which takes place in directors who holds shares in an organisation involving the factors that what is best for the company and what interest the individual holds. In the case of dealing with such risks, appropriate measures must be adopted by the entity such as proper information, knowledge, disclosures and communal decision making (Langford, Ramsay and Welsh, 2015). To prevent such acts, an appropriate internal control system is required to be developed by considering all inherent risk factor. In addition to this, the unbiased internal audit committee must be developed by mutual consent of shareholder to monitor the activities of shareholders. In this case; Fodera and Williams were also held to be in breach of the legislative duty of care and diligence. It is because; they were also responsible for the transaction of $10 million. This case fact provides learning that sensibly careful and diligent directors in their situation might have brought the concern previous to the board (Venus, 2016). The court also detailed that no logical director in Adlers position and procuring his knowledge might have begun with PEEs gaining of the three unauthorised technology and communication investments and the three unsecured loans from the AEUT to entities related with Adler. Learning from this case law Present case had provided me in-depth learning regarding responsibilities of director and consequence if they contravene the same. Considered case showcases that Adler had contravened the directors duties as he didnt exercise his given powers with a standard of care and diligence (Barker and et.al. 2016). He recognised that material injustice could be estimated by reference to the net transfer of value if the company diminished its economic resource as a result by making use of insolvency test (Burton v Palmer). Mutually these tests lead to the result that was legal according to s260 (1) (a), as their ultimate purpose was to stabilise the share prices which eventually failed. The share prices diminished significantly. As a result company suffered from a 2 million loss. In accordance with the Burton v Palmer test, financial resources were decreased by the company thus keeping aside the transactions validity Adler states that the rights received are less rather than the price paid for his own benefit. It was Willows hope that the various warring powers could agree to end the war without carrying out to the point where one side was clearly defeated and had no choice but to surrender. Fairly obviously, this hope was not ultimately realized. The Entente powers, who were the victors, enforced such harsh conditions on the Central powers (particularly Germany) that they essentially ensured World War II, which is more or less what Wilson meant when he said only a peace without victory can last. Woodrow Wilson, War Message to Congress, 2 April 1917 In this address to Congress, asking for a declaration of war against Germany, how does Wilson explain the necessity of war? What will be the American peoples goal or war aim? The presidents purpose of this address was not only to convince the Congress that American participation In the final stages of the war would indefinitely Horton it and provide Wilson with the opportunity to establish the peace in Europe, but to change the American peoples opinion about isolationism. This war against mankind Wilson defined as the intent of German submarines to take the lives of innocent citizens, who were supplying aid or exporting goods on merchant ships. Wilson calls it a war against all nations, and makes his address seemed more convincing by associating the united States with other friendly (neutral) countries who are also suffered from German attacks. The president expressed his regret in having to make such a move but found it as his constitutional duty to so.Wilson the war for democracy, for the right of those who submit to authority to have a voice in their own governments, for the rights and liberties of small nations, for a universal dominion of right by such a concert of free peoples as shall bring peace and safety to all nations and make the world itself at last free. With the statement the world must be made safe for democracy, Wilson ruled out any questions as to why he was leading his country into combat and it became evident that his words pointed to principle, not selfish ends, as the motive for war.He proclaimed America wasnt sighting against the German people, but we were engaged in a battle opposing the government of which the people had no control over. We have no feeling towards them but one of sympathy and friendship. It was not upon their impulse that their government acted in entering this war. It was not with their previous knowledge or approval. Wilson summarizes his war aims into one sweeping goal: to make the world safe for democracy. He ended with, God helping her she can do no other. With this closing sentence Woodrow Wilson left America with no choice but to defend her honor.

Capital Punishment Essays (223 words) - Capital Punishment, Law

Capital Punishment Matchmaker.com: Sign up now for a free trial. Date Smarter! Capital Punishment I am all for Capital Punishment. I think that if you kill someone you should be given the death penalty. I think that the death of the killer would give family and friends a bit of ease over the death. Also the death should not be prolonged and should be done immediate. By giving the death penalty to some one it is fair and very just to me. If you kill someone you deserve to die and not stay in jail.. If a man kills a man and is convicted he should be ready to die next. When you give a killer the death penalty it would reassure the people close to the victim it would not happen again. Also it gives them the feeling that the death has been avenged. A family will feel less pain if the killer dies like he should. The death penalty should be give the day after conviction. When a killer stays in prison he takes up space in already over crowed prisons. Most people would want this so murders can live in prison off of other peoples hard earned money. My position for the death penalty is clear that I think it is a good idea. If you kill someone you should prepare to die the next day. Now that you have read this what is your opinion.

Practical Hints on Writing Online Discussion Posts

Practical Hints on Writing Online Discussion Posts Basic Notions for the Discussion Board Post Writing If you are a newcomer to the world of online courses and eager to gain your first online learning experience, the first thought that crosses your mind is What is pivotal in online studying? A seasoned student will give you a sound piece of advice to consider online discussion posts, which are also known as the discussion board, to be of the utmost importance. Nonetheless, the discussion board post writing is not petrifying and could be a piece of cake if done properly. The first thing you need to remember is that a discussion board is not the place where you can only get your course requirements. It is specially developed as the channel of communication with your professors and classmates. What is more, that is the exact place where you should seek help and share information on the course. That is why it is strongly advised to make your own posts and participate in other discussions in order to ace the course and to be (or at least to make an impression of) a diligent student. Steps to Follow While Writing Discussion Posts Consider the purpose of writing. Get prepared. Look through the posting directions. Take a stand on the point. Search for supporting evidence. Compile your response. Publish your post on time. Step 1: Consider the purpose of discussion posts writing During the classes, both students and professors have an opportunity to participate in the discussion about the subject and present their points of view. As it was already mentioned above, writing discussion posts substitutes for this participation in online courses. The only difference is that you use your fingers and keyboard instead of your voice! Summarizing this point, you need to keep the language and tone conversational. Post, respond, and facilitate other discussions! Step 2: Get prepared There is no point in presenting some nonsense if you were supposed to conduct research, fulfill any assignment, or read any related information. No one is interested in wasting their time on reading a post with a half-baked idea behind it. Make sure to double-check each and every word or thought you are about to post. Step 3: Look through the posting directions What are the directives? Is it about presenting your personal attitude, res tating the ideas already mentioned, or something else? Pay attention to the related posts before compiling your own one. Step 4: Mind the point. Is there something you want to present or just share with your fellows and professors? Mind the relevance of your point and narrow down the topic. Imprint on your memory the magnitude of the balance and interconnection of the ideas and theories, as well as real life examples. You can ask your professor to clarify any confusing points, but make sure to do it in advance. Step 5: Search for supporting evidence. Remember no evidence, no case. The backup documentation is number 1 requirement for presenting any point. Frankly speaking, it does not matter where you have taken this data from the news, the latest research, your real life situation, or course material. The source is of no importance as long as it is credible. While preparing for the discussion, jot down any valuable piece of information in order to be able to find necessary statist ics but not to rack your brain, trying to recollect it. It goes without saying that your post needs references. Bear in mind to cite properly. Plagiarism is always plagiarism, so make sure to give credits to those people, who compiled the works you are using. Just mention the author/researcher, title, and date. Step 6: Compile your response Hopefully, there is no need to highlight the importance of writing a coherent post, which is logically divided into paragraphs. You may also use the bullet points or a list if necessary. Use word processing software while writing. Moreover, mind to use the spell checker and the preview mode after finishing the post. Later you will only need to copy and paste the post to the discussion board. Follow the rules stated in the syllabus requirements or course introduction. If you need to respond to another post, do it wisely and properly. Opt for posting to make a response, imagining the same situation in the class environment. Would you respond to the same statement if it was made in the live discussion? If you answer positively, then you can move on to writing a discussion board response. If you answer negatively, leave this post and look for another one until you find the one that interests you. Brevity is the soul of wit until it explains your point to the audience. The answers I agree (with XXX) or Interesting are not answers. Make sure to explain why you agree. In addition, there is nothing wrong if you disagree with your classmates position. Just do it politely and support you claim with solid evidence. Theory and practice are not parallel lines, they need to cross. The focal point of the discussion is to apply the theory to the real life. It is better to cut a long story short, providing a personal example, than ramble around theory and pad your answer with meaningless words. You can pass the test answering ABC but fail when it comes to practice. Step 7: Publish your post on time Each and every post or comment should be made on time. If you are asked to start with posting and only then move on to making responses, do it in the required way. First post and only then take your time to respond to the appealing post. The worst thing that might happen to you is the professor who found out that you had failed to meet such an easy requirement. Do it properly and start an intense yet reasoned discussion. You may get additional points for that.

Summarize Comm Theories Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 1

Summarize Comm Theories - Essay Example The study of the scientific interpretation of information is supported by both the Schema Theory and the ELM. According to Woodland, (2011), the Schema Theory explains how human beings maintain sanity amid the information tide. The human mind is able to decode information and relate it to previous experiences to enhance communication. The ELM supports the Schema Theory by explaining that human beings do interpret information when they want to, but rely on signals that are unrelated to the information (Woodland, 2011). The study about communication and social order adopts a cross-sectional design methodology. The study has no time frame and it relies on comparisons to provide a visual image of the scientific interpretation of information. The major findings of the study relate communication to a system of mental focus whereby meanings are attached to information. In addition, social order is improved when there are forms that improve the social experience through communication. The findings are congruent with the communication theories discussed; hence resonate with my knowledge about communication and social order. The text supports the major theme that; through a scientific approach, human beings are able to interpret information and evaluate it through previous experiences for self-maintenance and social

Harley Davidson History Essay Example for Free

Harley Davidson History Essay Actually, the history of the Harley-Davidson Company began in 1903, when two brothers, Bill Harley and Walter Davidson, invented their first motorcycle in Milwaukee (Gannon, 2002, p. 8). At that period of time other companies produced motorcycles in the North-American states and one of them, the Indian Motorcycle Company, became the main competitor of Harley-Davidson for many years. In fact, it was a bicycle, equipped with a one-cylinder motor. All details of that motorcycle were produced manually. Later, the second version of that bike was produced with more powerful motor and it became the first motorcycle for sale (p. 10). Three bikes were assembled that year and the Harley-Davidson Company opened the first page of its history. In 1904, the brothers produced 8 motorcycles and in 1906 it were 50. The company developed very quickly and by that period of time it included about 20 employees hired. Harley-Davidson constantly aspired to create a high speed bike and as a result the new model known as V-twin was introduced in 1909. The specially designed vacuum valves and a belt transmission were the main features of that model (Oliver, 1957, p. 26). In 1910, the legendary Bar and Shield logo was developed. It continues to be the main defining symbol of Harley-Davidson bikes today (p. 28). The significant progress of the Harley-Davidson Company took place in 1912. A new 6-story factory was built and first overseas sales were made in Japan. That year Harley-Davidson presented its first version of gear box. The mechanism of chain gear was designed in 1913 and a three-speed sliding-gear transmission was developed in 1915 (p. 32). It should be emphasized that the First World War played a big role in the development of the Harley-Davidson Company. So, about 20,000 motorcycles were sold to the U. S. military forces by the end of 1918 (Walker, 2000, p. 67). The given order significantly improved the reputation of Harley-Davidson and having 2,000 additional dealerships worldwide the company managed to become the biggest motorcycle factory in the world (Oliver, 1957, p. 34). Improving the construction of V-twin motors, company’s constructors couldn’t get rid of the main problems, typical for the given class of motors. The opened valves often clogged up and had a lot of maintenance problems. At that time, Indian Motorcycle Company used another construction of V-motors. Though, theoretically that construction was less effective the engineers managed to bring it to perfection and got the maximal power and maintenance simplicity. For that reason, the administration of the Harley-Davidson Company took decision to create its own class of V-motors with longitudinal placement. The first pattern of that bike appeared in the last days of the second decade (p. 35). The new model, equipped with the Flathead V-twin engine was invented in 1929 (Walker, 2000, p. 72). The motors of the given model were equipped with side-valves and the classical Flathead could successfully compete with the production of the Indian Motorcycle Company. Unfortunately, Flathead appeared two months earlier the moment when the Great Depression began. The number of sales decreased in several times, but the company managed to survive when others went bankrupt. However, having survived the depression time the company managed to stabilize its economy and was in very advantageous position – huge demand and the absence of supply. In 1932, the three-wheel Servi-Car was developed (Oliver, 1957, p. 38). Together with the change, called as the eagle design, which was painted on all Harley-Davidson gas tanks, there were a lot of changes made in the engine’ s construction. Afterwards, the given model made a good impression on the U. S. police, as a result, Servi-Car managed to become police vehicle (p. 38). In 1936, the Knucklehead motorbike was invented and managed to become the victory over the Indian (p. 39). The given model took place on the market for 12 years and had a huge influence on the further developments. The engineers continued working on Knucklehead model even during the Second World War. Having changed the motor’s configuration and added the hydraulic device intended for pushing valves, the constructors managed to get rid of adjusting gaps. Due to the aluminum body of engine the motor’s heat emission was increased. Afterwards, bikers called that model – Penhead. The main event which took place in 1953, it was the collapse of the main competitor of Harley Davidson Indian Motorcycle Company (Walker, 2000, p. 88). Nevertheless, the company faced a lot of problems in the marketing field due to the fast development of Japanese and European motorbike companies. Thus, having sold the part of its stocks, Harley Davidson was involved in the cruel fight against foreign producers. In 1969, American Machine and Foundry Company bought the control packet of shares of Harley Davidson and became its actual owner (Oliver, 1957, p. 40). The new motorcycles had a negative impact on the company’s reputation and Harley Davidson began to lose the market of Big-twin and Sportster models. In 1971, FX Super Glide model was produced (p. 43). Although the given model wasn’t popular, Harley Davidson developed its further unique motorcycles on the basis of FX Super Glide. By the middle of 70-s the given models couldn’t cope with the production of Japanese competitors. As a result, in 1981 senior members of Harley-Davidson bought back Harley-Davidson Motor Company from AMF (Walker, 2000, p. 90). In 1983 the group H. O. G was founded and became the largest factory-sponsored motorcycle club in the world. By the year 2000, the club had over 500,000 members (Gannon, 2002, p. 15). In 1984, the new Evolution V2 model with an aluminum head was presented to public (Oliver, 1957, p. 42). At the end of this revolutionary decade for Harley-Davidson, the FXSTS Springer Softail model was introduced into the lineup. It was made on the basis of motorcycles of the 1940-s and equipped with the modern 1340 cc motor (Walker, 2000, p. 92). The appearance of the given engine allowed the Harley Davidson Company to produce many motorcycles by individual orders. So, introduction of such model as FLSTF Fat-Boy in the early 1990-s can be considered as a good evidence of that fact. In 2001, the new model of Harley-Davidson was presented for the 2002 model year. The main feature of the given model was suggested to be the modern engine, equipped with a liquid-cooled system. It should be pointed out that today the Harley Davidson Company takes the leading position in the business World, when demand exceeds supply, that allows to increase the prices of production and stock. North and Central Florida Springs Essay example -- Geology

Introduction Groundwater is the largest and most available usable source of drinking water in the state. There is a vast and mysterious system of caves and natural springs in North Central Florida. The cave system within the aquifer is one of the most amazing parts. The caves are remarkable in many ways. They are among the deepest and longest in the world, let alone the U.S. Another amazing aspect of the system is the purity of the water. The springs collectively produce billions of gallons of crystal clear water per day. The whole system stems from the Florida Aquifer that rests under the entire state. When most people think of Florida, they think of the weather and the beaches, but its the springs and the whole water system of the Florida Aquifer that makes the State so lush. The springs are an invaluable resource and natural wonder of the state. Combined, the system of 320 known springs produces nearly 8 billion gallons of water per day, more than the state currently uses (alt hough at present population growth, this remains to be seen). The springs of North Florida have always been a wonder. From the days of the Spanish Conquistadors searching for the "fountain of youth" to the millions of tourists that come to visit the springs today they have intrigued and amazed. With crystal clear waters feeding rivers that can disappear as quickly as they appeared the springs truly are an amazing sight. It was always thought that these springs were an unlimited resource, but scientists have discovered that man's influence can harm these spring. The Biscayne Aquifer in South Florida are already showing signs of a reduced flow due to the overpopulation of the area. The whole system is very fragile and we must all be ... ...d protect the water. There are grass roots organizations trying to help their areas and organizations like NSWA, but we need some cohesive concerted group effort if anything is going to get done. Individuals need to do their part to help preserve and protect the natural springs and the whole water system. The NSWA continues its lobbying of the FDA in its fight with the bottlers that use boreholes. Other groups are also helping and if they work together they may yet save one of our states most important resources. Although groups like the NSWA and Save Our Springs, Inc. have won small battles and stalled the advances of some companies, they are facing a booming 3 billion dollar industry with its own powerful lobbyists. The battle is far from over to protect our springs and everyone should be made aware of their obligation to help protect this invaluable resource.
